Every couple has had to stumble through one of those terribly long days, when by the time the family dinners and drinks with friends came to an end you wanted nothing to do with each other… or anyone in general. I think that there comes a point in every relationship where you need space, something to call your own to prevent a pointless fight and sheer frustration. Some peep can obviously handle this stress better than others, but I think family functions have the ability to bring out the worst in people. You spend the majority of the day answering questions about yourself, asking people the reciprocating questions, then continuing on to discuss future plans for either yourself or the relationship. On top of this if it is your family which is hosting the get together you have to worry about the possible humiliating stories of your childhood and of course those intrusive family members you could only keep away for so long. Of course it is always nice to know you have someone to go home with, but if you have been surrounded all day, you can’t help but be completely exhausted with all forms of communication. Just remember that it takes someone really special to suffer through those family dinners with you, otherwise you will have to answer questions as to why they are missing at the next one.
