Nearly all of us have had that moment where we realized that video games can be applicable to real life issues. Yes, we can't hit bricks and expect to get coins out of them, but you can't deny that when you earned and saved money in a game to buy that special sword, it helped you learn the value of saving. Although some people encouraged gaming in their families, I think the Wii (both through advertising and making the games interactive) convinced parents that games can actually bring families together… instead of making children homicidal maniacs.
I can't help but cringe when I hear parents, or just people in general, complaining about video games causing children to become more violent. It's like when there was a fad that blamed violence on music and movies… it's bullshit. Parents who don't bother to watch their kids or don't bother to pay attention to when things are going wrong should take the blame, not what the children escape into. If these violent video games and movies really are to blame, how can we possibly begin to explain violence before their creation? Angry cave drawings caused cave people to kill? Bull.
