February 15th, 2012
Well, Valentine's Day has come and gone relatively painlessly. Although I am not a huge fan of the stereotypical roses and heart-shaped chocolates, I do like to get a bit of extra love on this day. It's hard to fight this holiday because of all the romantic gestures that seem to be happening everywhere. I find that there are many men (and women) who claim that you should make the person you are with feel special everyday, not just on Valentine's Day, but let's be honest… how many of us can say we do this? February 14th is one of those days that I can't help but see the world through rose-coloured glasses, despite my best efforts.
On another note, with the amount of publicity that celebrities get for their prescription drug abuse you would think that they would start to learn. It isn't like living with the of rest society where an overdose goes completely unnoticed. When a celebrity overdoses on prescription medications, or abuses any kind of illegal substance, it is all over the news. Magazines interview specialists who explain how much a celebrity took and why it caused their death. With all of this knowledge, I can't help but wonder, why are celebrities completely disregarding doctors' recommendations and suggested dosages?
Maybe it is about time that sleeping pills and pain killers become harder to attain, or maybe doctors should have to give regular checkups and blood tests to those who have legal prescriptions. More importantly, maybe society should start to realize that the only difference between a drug user living on the street and a drug user in a mansion is how readily available drugs are and how socially acceptable drug use becomes.
